KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (Reuters) – Phil Mickelson’s caddie took off from the observe vary in a rush in what was clearly a club emergency, barely 20 minutes before the final tee time at the PGA Championship on Sunday.
Mickelson’s brother Tim, who can also be his caddie, carried what gave the impression to be a one-iron as he dashed in the direction of the clubhouse, leaving Mickelson, the one participant left on the vary, to proceed his warm-up accompanied by teacher Andrew Getson.
The caddie re-emerged a couple of minutes later and instructed CBS tv that he had retrieved a four-wood to interchange what apparently was a cracked face on the one-iron.
Mickelson, 50, began the final round with a one-shot lead at Kiawah Island in his quest to change into the oldest main champion.
